FUTA Hosts 4th Edition of NCC-DBI Digital Literacy Training

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is currently hosting the 4th edition of the annual digital literacy training program, an initiative driven by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). This training, which is approved by the Federal Government, is part of a nationwide effort to enhance digital literacy across university communities, equipping them with skills that meet global technological standards.

The program aims to empower participants with essential digital knowledge, ensuring they can adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape. The initiative also seeks to position Nigerian universities as leading centers of digital expertise, contributing to the country's growing digital economy.

In his welcome remarks, the Coordinator, Adapt FUTA, and the University's focal person for the training, Professor Sunday Adewale, expressed appreciation to the NCC and DBI for selecting FUTA once again as a venue for this transformative program. "This training aligns perfectly with FUTA’s mission to foster technological innovation and digital advancement. It provides our staff with the skills necessary to compete globally," he said.

Mr. Ikenna Ogbanufe, the Training Coordinator from DBI, emphasized the significance of digital literacy in shaping Nigeria's future. "By consistently executing this training across universities, we are ensuring that institutions like FUTA can harness digital technologies to contribute meaningfully to global digital knowledge," he stated.

According to him, the current edition has attracted a diverse range of participants from various university communities who are eager to build on the skills acquired in previous years. The training covers a broad array of topics, including data science, cybersecurity, and digital communication tools, providing participants with hands-on experience in these areas.

The Dean of the School of Computing, Professor Kayode Alese, praised the initiative for equipping participants with vital tools to navigate the digital landscape. He noted that this year's training serves as an invaluable resource, opening doors to new opportunities and equipping participants with practical knowledge for navigating emerging digital frontiers.

With FUTA hosting the 4th edition of the NCC-DBI digital literacy training, the institution continues to solidify its reputation as a hub for innovation and capacity development, while contributing to the Federal Government's broader vision of developing a digitally skilled workforce.
