The Federal Ministry of Education has appointed Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), as a member of the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee for the TETFund Special High-Impact Intervention Project targeting engineering and technology faculties in selected federal and conventional universities.

The appointment letter highlighted Professor Oladiji’s distinguished professional background, experience, and contributions to the engineering, technology, and education sectors as the basis for her inclusion in the high-level committee, which is tasked with monitoring, evaluating, and overseeing the implementation of this national initiative.

The intervention, a N50 billion Federal Government project, is designed to enhance the quality of engineering and technology education in Nigeria by focusing on practical skills acquisition, industry relevance, innovation, and applied research, rather than purely theoretical training. FUTA is one of the beneficiary institutions, receiving funds to upgrade existing facilities or construct new workshops where needed.

Speaking at the inauguration on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Abuja, Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, charged committee members to “monitor project execution, ensure compliance with approved specifications and timelines, evaluate outcomes, identify challenges, and provide objective reports to guide policy decisions. You are entrusted with safeguarding public investment and ensuring value for money. Every facility delivered under the intervention must reflect quality, sustainability, and relevance to national needs.”

The minister added that the High-Impact Intervention Project is a strategic initiative aimed at upgrading laboratories, workshops, and research facilities to position Nigeria’s universities as hubs of innovation and practical problem solving. He emphasized that funding alone does not guarantee results, stressing the need for effective implementation, adherence to standards, transparency, and accountability—the very mandate of the committee.

The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu (GCFR), prioritizing skills development and economic diversification, and represents a significant step toward strengthening engineering and technology education across the nation.
