FUTA Vice Chancellor Promises Continued Support for Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition Among Students
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji, reaffirmed its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and skill acquisition during an exhibition showcasing student products from the course "Acquisition of Practical Skills in Entrepreneurship."
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), continues to affirm its dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and promoting skill acquisition among its students. During the exhibition showcasing products created by students enrolled in the compulsory course titled "Acquisition of Practical Skills in Entrepreneurship" (ENT 302), Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji expressed her commitment to nurturing future entrepreneurs.
The event took place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Auditorium. Professor Oladiji highlighted the exhibition as a vital opportunity to showcase the skills acquired by students over a few weeks, stating, “This is another opportunity to see what our students have done through skills acquired during this training. It is an annual event which has produced and exposed budding entrepreneurs for our nation and even beyond.” She emphasized that many past participants have successfully leveraged their training to thrive in their respective fields post-graduation.
Reiterating the spirit of the “Futarian” mantra, “technology for self-reliance,” Professor Oladiji encouraged students to embrace the importance of technology and lifelong learning. She also urged them to utilize social media effectively and assured her personal support in promoting student businesses that offer solutions on campus.
The Centre for Entrepreneurship (CENT) organized the annual exhibition, with Director Professor Oludunni Daramola highlighting its significance in unearthing the hidden entrepreneurial potential of students. She noted that the training serves as a foundation for building successful and sustainable futures, citing successful alumni who capitalized on similar opportunities.
Professor Daramola expressed gratitude towards the Vice Chancellor and university management for their unwavering support. She emphasized that FUTA provides an ideal environment for entrepreneurial growth and announced recent initiatives, including a talent hunt program aimed at enhancing students’ entrepreneurial skills.
The exhibition showcased a diverse range of products, including farm produce, home accessories, solar-powered appliances, confectioneries, hats, artwork, and fashion items. The Director of the Technology and Incubation Centre, Professor Olubanjo, and Associate Director of CENT, Dr. Emidun, commended the students for their quality work and encouraged them to continue developing their skills beyond the exhibition.
