FUTMINNA Receives COREN Accreditation Report, Pledges Swift Action On Academic Upgrades

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has received the report of the accreditation exercise conducted by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) on its Food Engineering and Petroleum and Gas Engineering programmes in the School of Infrastructure, Process Engineering and Technology (SIPET).

The report was formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, at the close of the three-day accreditation exercise held from 8 to 10 June 2026 at the Academic Publishing Centre, Main Campus.

Presenting the report, the Team Lead, Engr. Prof. John Olorunmaiye of the University of Ilorin expressed appreciation to the University Management and staff for their warm reception, cooperation, and support throughout the exercise.

He commended the University for its quality healthcare facilities, conducive learning environment, adequate lecture rooms, and qualified academic staff.

The team, however, identified areas requiring further attention, including the provision of additional facilities, books and journals for the programmes under review, improved safety measures through the installation of more exit signs, and enhancement of library resources to sustain international best practices.

Prof. Olorunmaiye also stressed the need for greater progress in the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), particularly in evaluating the attainment of course learning outcomes. He further highlighted the need for additional laboratory spaces, noting that increased investment in the two programmes would strengthen not only the departments under review but also other engineering programmes within the University.

He encouraged the University to continue leveraging the expertise of professionals within the School of Engineering as consultants and advised the institution to consider introducing additional engineering programmes.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, described the accreditation exercise as a valuable peer-review process that provides institutions with opportunities for continuous improvement.
