Gambian Government Seeks Collaboration with Bayero University Kano on Technical Support, Staff, and Student Exchange

A high-level delegation from the Republic of the Gambia, led by the Minister of Education, Professor Pierre Gomez, visited Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on February 25, 2025, to explore potential collaboration in technical support, staff capacity building, and student exchange programs.

 

The Gambian Minister of Education explained that the newly established University of Education in Gambia, recently upgraded from a College of Education, requires technical expertise to ensure its smooth takeoff. Specifically, he sought BUK's assistance in providing a Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), and a Senior Professor of Education to serve as the Director of Research and Development.

BUK's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, welcomed the proposal, highlighting the university's impressive track record. He noted that BUK boasts 18 faculties, 16 research centers, including three Centres of Excellence, and over 90 academic departments, with a history spanning 45 years.
