The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar Prof Florence Obi has charged the newly elected leaders of the Students Union Government (SUG), University of Calabar to be purpose-driven in their choice of infrastructural initiatives in the institution, Myschoolnews report.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge at the just concluded inauguration of the new Students Union Government Executive at the University Senate Chamber

The University Administrator said the new leadership should be focused as well as also partner with critical stakeholders of the Institution to think of a project that they can leave behind because the University is grooming them to be future leaders that will make a mark.

Prof Obi while congratulating the new crop of Students Union Leaders urged them to be responsible, demonstrate capacity and radiate confidence in the students who elected them and also work in tandem with the administration for the good of the University

She admonished the new leadership to be fair and disciplined both in character and decision-making so that they can leave a legacy behind. 

The Chairman of Calabar University Electoral Commission (CUECO), Prof Takim Ojua described the inauguration of the SUG leadership as significant and symbolic adding that the election process leading to their emergence was free and fair.   

Earlier, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Tony Eyang congratulated the newly elected officials of the SUG and the Outgone student leaders and said the SUG election that gave birth to the leadership was peaceful, free and fair and was well received by the Students community.

He however charged the newly inaugurated Executives of the Students Union Government to be diplomatic in their dealings as well as carry the students along in their everyday activities.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected president of the Students Union Government Senator Kachi Akwo God's gift stated that the University of Calabar has long been known for its academic excellence, cultural diversity and commitment to community engagement, so it is his utmost responsibility and that of his team to shape it's future.

Senator Kachi acknowledged the immense potential that lies within the walls of the Institution and said that his role as the Students Union Government president is of service and that he is elected to represent the students and also to advocate for their needs and aspiration.

He assured the students that his team will work closely with the University administration to address issues related to curriculum, infrastructural development, and welfare.
