ICAN, Wesley University Ondo Partner to Integrate Professional Certification into Degree Programmes
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has taken further steps to deepen its institutional relationship with Wesley University following a strategic visit aimed at advancing accounting education and professional development.
During the engagement, Wesley University Ondo reaffirmed its full support for ICAN and expressed its desire to become a fully accredited ICAN centre.
The University also explored pathways that would enable its accounting students to graduate with both a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree and the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification.
As a demonstration of commitment to the partnership, Wesley University Ondo offered to confer an honorary award on a nominee of the Institute during its forthcoming convocation ceremony and disclosed plans to construct a block dedicated to ICAN-related projects within the University.
In his remarks, the ICAN President, Haruna N. Yahaya, mni, PhD, FCA, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his visionary leadership and praised the University’s blend of academic excellence and strong moral values. He acknowledged the declaration of intent for collaboration by Wesley University Ondo and promised the ICAN's full support. He also promised to visit the University with his team soon, to assess and actualise this proposal. As a mark of support for the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor, the president and ICAN management pronounced an honorary ICAN Award on the Vice Chancellor, Rt Rev Prof. Obeka, Samuel Sunday and to decorate him accordingly during their visit.
The ICAN delegation included the Immediate Past President, Davidson C. S. Alaribe, FCA; the 1st Deputy Vice President, Etofolam F. Osuji, mni, FCA; the 2nd Deputy Vice President, Oye Akinsulire, PhD, FCA; the Registrar and Chief Executive, Lanre Olasunkanmi, FCA; and the Deputy Registrar, Technical Services, Ijeoma Anaso. Other senior officials of the Institute were also present.
The Wesley University team was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Revd. Professor, Samuel Sunday Obeka, and included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Edward Oyekanmi; the Bursar, Mrs Dorcas Akinjobi; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Very Revd. Dr. Peter Anyanwu; the Director of Research and Innovation, Dr. Aribatise Adekunle; the Dean, College of Law, Prof. S. F. Akinbuli; the Dean, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Dr. (Mrs.) A. O. Agboola; and the Director of Finance and Investment, Dr. Kolawole Olasoji.
The visit underscored both institutions’ shared commitment to strengthening professional accounting education and expanding opportunities for students through strategic academic-professional collaboration.
