IMAP Wins SWAN Award for Most Sports Supportive Institution in Nasarawa State

Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic, Lafia, has been selected for the prestigious "Most Sports Supportive Institution in Nasarawa State" award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). This accolade will be presented in recognition of the Polytechnic's significant contributions to sports development.

The announcement was made by Esther Ekah, Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee of SWAN’s Nasarawa State Chapter. She and her committee recently visited the Polytechnic for a familiarisation tour, where she highlighted the institution's commendable efforts in promoting sports. 

Ekah praised the Polytechnic’s recent Students Sports Week, noting its positive impact on students' academic performance and mental well-being. She emphasized that sports are essential for mental rejuvenation and social productivity. Furthermore, she commended Dr. Nurudeen Mu'azu Maifata, Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, for his initiative to hold sporting activities at the end of each semester and encouraged him to continue this practice.

In response, Dr. Maifata, represented by Mukhtar Wakeel, Director of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He conveyed that the Acting Rector has publicly stated his refusal to accept awards in his name but is honored to accept this award on behalf of the institution. Wakeel assured the committee that the Polytechnic remains committed to providing an enabling environment for students, staff, and the media.

Dan-Musa Mohammed, Director of Information, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, also spoke at the event. He explained that the award is part of SWAN’s efforts to refresh the mental and professional capacities of sports journalists through a weeks-long competition. Mohammed, a former Vice President of SWAN, added that the award ceremony would also recognize other distinguished individuals and institutions, further encouraging societal contributions.
