Inspiring African Woman Earns First-Class in Civil Engineering, Wins Top Awards

Serwah Yaa Ofosu, a determined and outstanding student from Ghana, has earned a first-class degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

In a heartfelt post on LinkedIn, Serwah reflected on her academic journey, describing it as a period of intense effort, personal growth, and unwavering focus. Despite facing numerous challenges, her resilience and hard work led to remarkable achievements.

Recognized as the Best Student in Geotechnical Engineering 

Awarded Female Personality of the Year by the Civil Engineering Students’ Association 

Leadership and Community Involvement: 

Beyond the classroom, Serwah took on various leadership roles: 

Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers (KNUST Chapter) 

Marketing Lead for TEDxKNUST Volunteer Coordinator for MISE Ghana in the Ashanti Region 

Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador, where she led technical training sessions and peer-learning initiatives 

Real-World Experience: 

To complement her academic knowledge, she pursued multiple internships, gaining practical experience in engineering. 

She developed a strong interest in sustainable design and data-driven solutions aimed at improving the built environment. 

“This degree represents every late night, every sacrifice, and every moment of resilience. I’m proud of the woman I’ve become,” she wrote.
