JAMB Uncovers 3,000 Fake Graduates in Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has recently exposed a staggering 3,000 fake graduates who never attended any university. These individuals managed to obtain degrees without ever stepping foot inside a classroom, highlighting the endemic corruption within the education system.

In a report published in the board’s bulletin, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede expressed concern over the issue of illegal admissions by certain institutions. These irregular admissions have long been a source of embarrassment for the country. During a meeting with the leadership of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities, Oloyede revealed that the board had meticulously documented over 3,000 cases of such fraudulent graduates.

“Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation,” the bulletin emphasized.

This revelation comes after the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education, in December 2023, directed JAMB to compile a list of tertiary institutions involved in irregular and illegal admissions. The examination body had previously cautioned candidates against accepting admissions from institutions that did not require full academic participation.

In a statement titled “Cessation of Illegal/Irregular Admission,” JAMB reiterated that all applications for admissions to first-degree programs, national diplomas, national innovation diplomas, and the Nigeria Certificate in Education must be processed exclusively through JAMB. The board aims to curb fraudulent practices and ensure transparency in the admission process.

As the nation grapples with this educational challenge, JAMB remains committed to upholding integrity and fairness in higher education.
