Jigawa State Approves N1.36 Billion for Educational Development and Student Support

Jigawa State has approved N1.36 billion for educational development and student support following the Executive Council meeting on Monday, October 14, 2024, chaired by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA. The funds will be directed toward improving educational infrastructure and providing bursary allowances to students.

The Council allocated N740,790,552.35 for the construction and upgrade of facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, administrative blocks, toilets, ICT labs, and workshops in selected schools across the state. Schools benefiting from these upgrades include GDSTC Kafin Hausa, GDSTC Babura, CGSSS Roni, CGSSS Jahun, GDSTC Gumel, GDSSS Kanya Babba, GDSSS Ringim, GDSSS Dutse, and GDSSS Hadejia. This investment aims to create better learning conditions and provide modern educational resources to students.

In addition to infrastructure development, the Council approved N624,024,000 for bursary allowances for 14,269 newly interviewed and returning students for the 2023/2024 academic session. Beneficiaries include students at Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, College of Education Gumel, Jigawa State Polytechnic Dutse, Jigawa State Polytechnic Hadejia, and College of Education and Legal Studies Ringim. This financial support is intended to alleviate the economic burden on students and ensure broader access to higher education.

The Council also approved a succession planning initiative aimed at strengthening the education sector's administrative framework within the state civil service. This initiative will help recruit and train new staff to fill critical gaps, ensuring that educational institutions continue to operate effectively. The decisions reached at the meeting underscore the state government's commitment to prioritizing education as a key driver of development, aiming to empower students and enhance the quality of education in Jigawa State.
