Kaduna School Abduction Survivor Recounts Terrifying Escape from Captivity

Mustapha Abubakar, a student from Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, bravely shared his story of survival after escaping from the clutches of kidnappers who abducted over 280 pupils and teachers from Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School. Abubakar's account provides insight into the traumatic experience endured by the victims, highlighting the urgent need for effective measures to address the prevalent security challenges in the region.
Mustapha Abubakar, a pupil abducted from Kuriga, Kaduna State, has provided a firsthand account of his traumatic experience after managing to escape from his captors. Recounting the ordeal to BBC Hausa Service, Abubakar revealed the harrowing conditions endured by the abducted students and teachers.

According to Abubakar, the kidnappers treated them like a 'herd of cows' as they were herded through the bush. He described the treacherous journey on foot, where they faced exhaustion and dehydration, with some of the girls collapsing from fatigue.
The bandits, armed and relentless, showed no mercy as they forcibly took the victims deeper into the forest. Abubakar recounted how he cleverly concealed himself in the bush, evading capture, and ultimately seizing an opportunity to escape.
His escape route led him through treacherous terrain until he reached Gayan, a nearby community, where he found refuge and assistance. Abubakar's bravery in escaping and sharing his story sheds light on the harsh reality faced by victims of abduction in the region.
Meanwhile, Senator Uba Sani, accompanied by senior government officials and security heads, visited the scene of the attack, assuring the community of efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers. The governor, in consultation with security agencies, has mobilized resources to locate and rescue the remaining victims.
Abubakar's account serves as a sobering reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect communities and educational institutions from the persistent threat of banditry and kidnapping in Kaduna State.
