Kaduna State University Forges Ahead in Medical Research: Stem Cell Laboratory Partnership with AMA Foundation and University of Indonesia
In a significant stride towards advancing medical research, Kaduna State University (KASU) has joined forces with the AMA Foundation and the University of Indonesia to establish a state-of-the-art stem cell laboratory.

The collaborative effort aims to not only foster a robust research culture within the university but also address critical medical challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, warmly welcomed a delegation from the AMA Foundation and the University of Indonesia during a pivotal meeting on January 10, 2024. The visit marked the commencement of discussions surrounding the establishment of a cutting-edge stem cell laboratory at KASU.
Prof. Abdullahi Abba, the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at KASU, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing its alignment with the college's strategic development plan. The collaboration is poised to enhance research capabilities and contribute to medical breakthroughs.

Lead Partner Consultant of AMA Foundation, Prof. Abdulsalami Nasidi, highlighted the initiative's goal of providing affordable medical treatments that are often inaccessible to many. The University of Indonesia team, led by Prof. Ari Syam, expressed readiness to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The stem cell laboratory is anticipated to focus on research, training, and treatments for ailments such as sickle cell disease, glaucoma, and spinal injuries.
His Excellency, Usman Ogah, the immediate past Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia, shared his personal experience as a beneficiary of such treatments, underscoring the importance of extending these services to the country.
In response, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa affirmed the university's unwavering support for this groundbreaking partnership. He reiterated that the collaboration aligns with KASU's strategic plan, emphasizing excellence in teaching, the promotion of research culture, community engagement, infrastructure improvement, and a student-centered approach.
Prof. Musa highlighted KASU's existing laboratory centers, including data analytics and mosquito research, all geared towards elevating higher education research. He expressed gratitude to Indonesia University for selecting KASU, acknowledged the philanthropy of the AMA Foundation, and commended the Ambassador for his dedication to the stem cell project.
The visiting team from the University of Indonesia included Dr. Rahyussalim, a spinal surgeon, Radiana Dhewayni, a biomedical scientist, and Tri Kurniawanti, a laboratory scientist. Noteworthy attendees from various Nigerian universities with stem cell centers also participated in the event.
This collaborative effort signifies a significant step forward in medical research, showcasing KASU's commitment to innovation and excellence in the field of healthcare. The university looks forward to a fruitful partnership that will contribute to advancements in medical science.
