The Library Systems and Information Services Department of Kaduna State University (KASU) recently organized a lecture titled "Sharing Best Practices for Laboratory Safety and Management." The lecture, facilitated by Rabiat Abubakar Idrees of the Department of Biochemistry, provided a comprehensive overview of essential lab safety principles and procedures.
The facilitator emphasized the significance of laboratory safety, highlighting the importance of a strong culture of safety in ensuring productivity and the well-being of staff and students. Key safety practices highlighted included proper education and training, safe handling and storage of chemicals, routine equipment maintenance, and the use of personal protective equipment.
The lecture also explored critical components of laboratory safety, including accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection. Participants were encouraged to adopt a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk assessment and to maintain open channels of communication to promote a robust safety culture.
The session concluded with an interactive segment featuring real-life case studies, receiving enthusiastic feedback from participants who commended the practical insights shared.
