KASCEPS Management Visits Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano for Strategic Academic Partnership

In an important step towards enhancing educational collaboration in Kano State, the Management of Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) embarked on a familiarity visit to Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK).

The visit, led by Dr. Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad, Provost of KASCEPS, aimed at exploring potential avenues for academic affiliation and strengthening institutional ties.

Dr. Ahmad commenced the meeting by providing a comprehensive overview of KASCEPS' history and its foundational vision. He highlighted the foresight of the college's founding fathers, whose aspirations included the establishment of state-owned universities in Kano. This dream has been realized with the creation of three state universities: Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, and Sa'adatu University of Education. Dr. Ahmad emphasized that these institutions represent a significant milestone in Kano's educational landscape, reflecting the state's commitment to advancing higher education.

The Provost expressed his deep admiration for the progress YUMSUK has achieved under the leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa. Dr. Ahmad explained the primary purpose of their visit—to establish a formal academic affiliation between KASCEPS and YUMSUK. This partnership would enable KASCEPS to offer degree programs as an affiliated institution of YUMSUK, thereby elevating the college's academic standing and providing students with greater educational opportunities.

"We are here today to key into a strategic relationship with YUMSUK, aiming to start awarding degrees at our college through this esteemed university," Dr. Ahmad stated. He further expressed his gratitude to Professor Kurawa for his dedication to the development of education in Kano State. Dr. Ahmad lauded the Vice-Chancellor as a beacon of educational excellence, not only in Kano but throughout the northern region of Nigeria.

The KASCEPS delegation was received warmly by the Vice-Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, and his management team. Among those in attendance were Dr. Tijjani Rufa'i Buhari, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics; Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba, DVC Administration; Adm. Isyaku Adamu, University Registrar; Mal. Sa'ad Sani Gambo, Acting University Bursar; Dr. Karimatu Isah Maisango, Acting University Librarian; and Hajiya Raliya Aliyu Abubakar, Director of Administration and Human Resources.

In his response, Professor Kurawa expressed his appreciation for the visit, recognizing its importance in the broader context of Kano State's educational development. He noted the existing relationship between KASCEPS and YUMSUK, particularly within the framework of the Kano State Forum of Tertiary Institutions, where he serves as Chairman and Dr. Ahmad as Secretary.

"The request for affiliation is indeed a significant step forward for education in our state," Professor Kurawa remarked. He acknowledged the complexities involved in establishing such a partnership, including the need for rigorous academic and administrative processes. However, he reassured the KASCEPS delegation of YUMSUK’s commitment to the project, showing the university's dedication towards educational advancement.

Professor Kurawa conveyed his confidence in the potential success of the proposed affiliation, citing the strength and capability of both institutions. "With the caliber of professionals at KASCEPS and the resources at YUMSUK, I believe that, by the grace of Almighty Allah, this partnership will be fruitful," he added.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Dr. Muhammad Umar Sumaila, Deputy Provost of KASCEPS, leading the vote of thanks. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire YUMSUK Management for their hospitality and willingness to engage in this important dialogue. Dr. Sumaila prayed for a prosperous and enduring relationship between the two institutions, emphasizing the shared commitment to advancing education in Kano State.
