Commodore Olawunmi gained public attention in 2021 when he revealed that the Buhari administration was aware of the sponsors behind the Boko Haram insurgency and banditry in Nigeria but failed to take action. This disclosure led to his invitation for questioning by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), which he attended with his lawyer, Femi Falana.

Olawunmi's extensive career includes roles such as Defence Attache in France and Commandant/Director of Studies at the Defence Intelligence College. His insights on governance and societal expectations are highly anticipated, particularly given the current economic hardships in Nigeria.
