The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, officially commissioned the Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU) at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH). The BICU is built to enhance the treatment of burns, providing critical care for patients with severe burn injuries.

 The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, officially commissioned the Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU) at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

The state-of-the-art facility was generously donated by a philanthropist and named after Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya, the esteemed matriarch of the Shagaya family in Ilorin.

The BICU is built to enhance the treatment of burns, providing critical care for patients with severe burn injuries. Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, emphasized the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services. He highlighted the transformation of the General Hospital in Ilorin into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) as part of their comprehensive efforts.

The project owes its existence to the generosity of Sheriff Shagaya, whose philanthropic gesture underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in bolstering healthcare infrastructure. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Shagaya expressed that the BICU represents more than just a burn unit—it stands as a monument to resilience, symbolizing the determination to overcome adversity and transform experiences into opportunities for growth and healing.
