The management of Ajayi Crowther University has reviewed research proposals submitted under the second edition of the Ajayi Crowther University Council Research Grant (ACUCRG 2), reaffirming its commitment to promoting academic excellence and research that addresses national development challenges.

The review meeting brought together all applicants for the grant in a process designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the quality of research proposals. Discussions centred on refining the submissions to ensure they deliver measurable societal impact.
The session was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Ebunoluwa Oduwole, who led the panel in a detailed assessment of each proposal. Applicants were questioned on the scope, relevance, and expected outcomes of their research, with the exercise serving as both an evaluation and mentorship session aimed at producing solution-driven projects.
The university's Governing Council had earlier approved a research grant of N45 million for scholars of the institution. The initiative, approved under the leadership of Olutoyin Okeowo, is part of efforts to strengthen teaching, research, and innovation while positioning the university as a leading academic institution in Nigeria.
The proposals span several critical sectors, reflecting the university's multidisciplinary research focus. Among them are studies on mental health, including "Qualitative Analysis and Modelling of Depression Prevalence Among Tertiary Students in South-West Nigeria," led by Prof. Olukayode Binuyo, and "Occupational Stress Management Among Security Guards," by Dr. Job Oluremi Okunoye and his research team.

Other proposals address substance abuse through the study, "Substance Use Among Undergraduates in Selected Faith-Based Universities," led by Prof. Michael Olalekan Olatunji, while agricultural innovation is represented by "Prevention of Post-Harvest Losses in Tomatoes," coordinated by Dr. Rachael Oluwayemisi Fashogbon and her team.
The review also featured technology and environmental sustainability projects, including "Design and Implementation of a Robotic System for Environmental Sustainability," by Engr. Dr. Olusayo Adekunle Ajeigbe, as well as the proposed establishment of the Ajayi Crowther University Mushroom Cultivation and Research Facility, led by Dr. B. M. Popoola.
During the exercise, Prof. Oduwole offered guidance on developing competitive research proposals capable of attracting funding and delivering practical solutions to societal challenges. She encouraged researchers to focus on innovation, relevance, and impact in presenting their work.
Other members of the review panel included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Afolake Olabinwonninu; Prof. Clement Tella of the Department of Chemical Science; Prof. Moses Akiibinu, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences; and Prof. Joseph Ibikunle, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Acting Director of Research, Innovation and Linkages, Dr. Babajide Ajayi, coordinated the presentations by the applicants.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged academics to ensure that students' moral and spiritual development continues to complement academic excellence, in line with the university's faith-based philosophy.
The ACU Council Research Grant (ACUCRG 2) is a LAIBONK Research and Development initiative supported by the university management under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor. LAIBONK, which represents Lagos, Ibadan, Bendel, Ondo, and Kwara, is a regional bloc of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) comprising senior church leaders, archbishops, and bishops.
