Kwara State University Appoints New Vice Chancellor
Professor Shaykh-Lukman Jimoh has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU) by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced the appointment of Professor Shaykh-Lukman Jimoh as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU). This appointment comes after Professor Shaykh-Lukman served in an acting capacity for 19 months.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, Professor Shaykh-Lukman emerged as the top candidate following a screening exercise conducted by the university's governing council.
Professor Shaykh-Lukman previously served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of KWASU following the passing of Professor Mohammed Mustapha-Akanbi in November 2022. Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University from 2020 to 2022.
Ajakaye highlighted Shaykh-Lukman's extensive experience as an administrator and university scholar, citing his academic achievements and professional affiliations. He also noted that Shaykh-Lukman, aged 60, hails from Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In addition to the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor, Governor AbdulRazaq approved the transition of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, into the University of Education. This decision aims to facilitate a smooth transition and logistical advantages for the institution's operations.

Furthermore, the government plans to enhance the viability of other colleges of education in line with current realities in the education sector.
The announcement comes shortly after Governor AbdulRazaq assented to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills, paving the way for the establishment of a teaching hospital and a university of education.
The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Ilorin, was attended by key officials including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Majority Leader, and members of the Committee on the Establishment of Kwara State University of Education.

The appointment of Professor Shaykh-Lukman and the transformation of the Kwara State College of Education into a university signal the government's commitment to enhancing the educational landscape in Kwara State.
