KWASU Secures MDCN Preclinical Accreditation, Clears Path for Medical Students’ Clinical Advancement

The announcement was made by the MDCN accreditation team lead and Deputy Registrar, Dr Nnaemeka Nwakama, during the exit briefing held at the KWASU Business School, Ilorin.
The accreditation panel commended the strong synergy between the university and the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, describing the collaboration as a critical foundation for sustaining quality medical education.
The team further emphasized the capital- and human-resource-intensive nature of medical training, urging continued investment to ensure the long-term stability and growth of the institution’s medical school.

Responding to the development, the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, conveyed the appreciation of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the MDCN’s process reinforces regulatory standards that strengthen medical education and professional integrity in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing the accreditation as a validation of the university’s commitment to quality. He pledged that the institution would address identified areas for improvement to further consolidate its standards.
With the approval, 300-level medical students are now cleared to progress into their clinical training phase after completing their first professional examinations, a key step in the medical education pathway.
