KWASU Secures Operational Rights Over Apodu Dam in Landmark Agreement with Kwara State Government

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, reached a historic milestone on Thursday, December 18, 2025, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources. The agreement officially grants the University operational and managerial authority over the Apodu Dam.

The partnership is designed to foster a sustainable framework for water management, benefiting both the academic community and the surrounding Malete environs.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Commissioner for Water Resources, Mallam Usman Lade, along with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and Directors, for their tireless efforts in bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion.

The handover of the Apodu Dam is expected to significantly boost KWASU’s research profile while solving long-standing water supply challenges in the region, marking a new chapter in the University’s commitment to social responsibility and innovation.
