KWASU unveils Disability Package for Special Needs Staff and Students

The management of Kwara State University has announced a disability package for all members of the University Community with special needs.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who made the announcement on the floor of the Senate of the institution on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, said that the decision had earlier been ratified by the management team on Monday, January 15, 2024.

The disability package for staff, he noted, was to foster an environment of inclusiveness for all category of staff and to compensate for the extra support needed to carry out their duties which often requires them to employ assistants.

Professor Jimoh announced that special needs staff of the institution would receive an allowance of fifty thousand Naira only (N50,000) monthly while they would also be entitled to double allowance for official travels to cover the cost of any assistant traveling with them.

The management also approved an annual One hundred thousand Naira only (N100,000) school fees relief for all special needs students while applicants with special needs who seek admission to the institution would be given priority if they meet all the criteria for admission.

Professor Jimoh added that KWASU remained conscious of the needs of all the members of her community and continues to strive for inclusivity, which encourages all persons to contribute to the growth of the institution regardless of physical status.

He recalled that the University had established a Disability Support Office to provide aid to members of the institution with equipment and other facilities that would enhance their active involvement in the life of the University.
