In a resounding declaration, LASU’s Provost, Professor Abiodun Adewuya, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, affirmed that LASU intends not only to co-host but also to win the prestigious sporting event.
During their welcome addresses, delivered at different venues within the campus, both the Provost and CMD expressed gratitude to the LASU Management, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello. The hosting rights secured alongside UNILAG are a testament to LASU’s commitment to excellence.
Professor Olufemi Idowu, Deputy Provost, emphasized unity, stating, “The game is to unite us in Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa. We are going to compete, compete to win, compete to excel.” Professor Adebowale Adekoya, Director of Clinical Science and Training and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, echoed this sentiment, affirming that LASU is ready to host and win.
The medical teams from LASUCOM and LASUTH, along with volunteers from medical students, have pledged their full support. As the countdown continues, LASU aims to make the 11th FASU Games a memorable and transformative experience for all participants.
Earlier, Professor Senapon Bak’re, Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee on Sensitization Rally, briefed the Provost and CMD on the purpose of the awareness rally, reinforcing LASU’s commitment to excellence in hosting this grand sporting fiesta.
The fervor surrounding the 11th Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games continues to build as Lagos State University (LASU) gears up for an extraordinary sporting event. The recent sensitization and awareness rally held at LASU’s Ikeja and Ojo campuses brought together key stakeholders, officials, and enthusiastic students.
At the College of Medicine (LASUCOM) in Ikeja, Professor Bak’re presented custom-designed T-shirts to the Provost, Professor Abiodun Adewuya, and Professor Sunday Alawode, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee. Car stickers and handbills promoting the FASU Games were also distributed to Dr. Adetokunbo Ogunkoya, further amplifying awareness within and beyond the college.
Comrade Obayemi Ayobami, Vice President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), rallied medical students to actively participate in the sporting activities and engage in the sensitization exercise.
Other esteemed college officials, including Dr. Ibironke J. Akinola (Sub-Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences), Professor Coker (Chairman, Doping Sub-Committee), and Dr. Ojewole Abdul-Fatai (Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences), received the rally team with enthusiasm.
The LASURadio 95.7 FM team, University Multimedia Centre staff, and members of various FASU sub-committees joined forces with student volunteers to create a vibrant atmosphere of unity and anticipation.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the College Secretary, Mr. Adelaja Oyebanjo, expressing gratitude to all involved.
Meanwhile, at the Ojo campus, the rally team met with Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, Alternate Chairman and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration). Other top university officials, including Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic), Dr. Lateef Salami (Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Registrar), Professor Sunday O. Alawode (Chairman, Media and Publicity), and Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile (Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations), reaffirmed LASU’s commitment to hosting a memorable and successful FASU Games.
