 Prof. Amidu Sanni, the Chief Imam of Lagos State University (LASU), has pointed to cumulative political misadventures as the root cause of Nigeria's current economic hardships. Speaking ahead of the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Prof. Sanni urged organized labour and the Federal Government to swiftly resolve issues surrounding a new minimum wage, emphasizing its importance for the nation's welfare.

In his Eid-el-Kabir message delivered in Lagos, Prof. Sanni underscored the necessity of completing the minimum wage deliberations promptly, stating it would significantly benefit the country. He lamented the harsh economic conditions faced by Nigerians today, attributing them to prolonged political inconsistencies and a lack of commitment to public welfare.

"The crisis in the Middle East, ongoing wars, and the pervasive insecurity in Nigeria should concern us all," Prof. Sanni remarked, urging a renewed approach to governance that prioritizes public good and fosters trust between leaders and citizens.

While advocating for a living wage, Prof. Sanni called on labour leaders to consider non-monetary measures that could improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians outside the formal labour sector. He criticized the erosion of moral values and the rise of corruption, stressing the need for religious leaders to promote higher moral standards and discourage criminal behaviors.
