Lagos State University (LASU) Vice Chancellor, tells LASU SDG Youth Ambassador to make the World better, tasked the young minds to go out, make their marks and contribute their quota at one day training.

The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University(LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, at a one day training programme for the members of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Youth club of the University, has tasked the young minds to go out, make their marks and contribute their quota to the development of the World.

She made this remarks on Wednesday,  12th July, 2023 at the S.L Edu Hall, Faculty of Science, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The LASU Numero Uno's message was delivered by the Deputy Vice Chancellor(Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo.

Speaking further, she states "This programme is in line with the "Youth 4GG" of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is an initiative that aims to activate young people to contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)".

Professor Olatunji-Bello urged the young SDG ambassadors to take advantage of the many opportunities that come with being a member and make their contributions by providing solutions to numerous challenges that face the World at the moment.

"As SDG ambassadors, members would be able to participate in all United Nations Programmes, both in LASU, Nigeria, the New York Headquarters, USA UN Headquarters and in other countries of the World", she noted.

She concluded her speech by saying that the club was part of efforts towards the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to which the Lagos State University was firmly committed and which informed the establishment of the SDG Centre months ago.

The Director, SDG, LASU, Prof. Tayo Ajayi, in his address applauded the Vice Chancellor, for establishing the Centre as well as her unflinching support. He pointed out that there were 17 sustainable development goals, but, as an institution, the focus would be on quality education. 

He admonished the participants to pay adequate attention to the training as it would be of enormous benefits. 

In his speech, the president of the club, Obadare Adenekan, thanked the Vice Chancellor, the Director, the trainer as well as the other executives of the fledging club. He informed that in a short time of its formation, the club had gained more members. He used the occasion to announce that the club would be inaugurated officially before the month runs out and called on other students, willing to be elements of change to join the club.

The trainer, Assitant Director, SDG and Investment, Office of the Governor, Lagos State, Mr Owoseni Olukotun, during the training on the SDG, was excited about the participation of the members, based on their level of engagement. He described them as great scholars, who would add values to the SDG. He enjoined them to take advantage of the opportunities the SDG offers and impact the society.

The well attended event came to a close with the first physical meeting of the executives and the members.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Funsho Omobitan and the representative of the Bursar, Mr Kunle Odunlami were other principal officers at the programme.

Also, Deputy Director, SDG, LASU, Dr. Teslim Ojuromi, Assistant Director, SDG, LASU, Dr. Olayemi Soladoye, the Deputy Registrar, (VCO), Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Special Assistant to the VC, Dr. Lateef Salami, the Coordinator, CIPR, Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile and the Administrative Secretary, SDG, LASU, Mr. Femi Akerele were equally in attendance.
