LASUED Hosts 2026 Tech Fair Week to Promote Innovation and Entrepreneurship

For three days each year, academic routines give way to creativity and innovation at the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), as students shift from answering questions to developing practical solutions. This year’s Tech Fair Week 2026, held from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 16th April 2026, highlights the transformation of students into creators and innovators.

The Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development (DESD) organised the annual Tech Fair at the university’s Oto/Ijanikin campus. The event is being held in front of Oluremi Tinubu Hall, with simultaneous activities taking place at the Multipurpose Hall, Epe campus.

The Tech Fair focuses on promoting innovation, digital skills, entrepreneurship, and collaboration among students and external participants. It provides a platform for participants to showcase their talents and practical knowledge beyond the classroom.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, who serves as the Chief Host, was represented by the Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. M. A. Daodu. In his address, the representative expressed appreciation to the host communities, management, and organisers for their support in making the programme a success. He also emphasized the need for students to become proactive, develop innovative ideas, and apply their knowledge in ways that can create meaningful opportunities in society.

Also speaking, the Director of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, Prof. Bolanle Omotoke Olaleye, emphasized that entrepreneurship represents the institution’s commitment to moving beyond theoretical learning to practical, solution-driven education.

 She noted that the initiative is designed to produce job creators rather than job seekers.

According to her, the programme is part of a four-year journey that integrates enterprise creation, innovation, leadership, and skill acquisition, which continues to transform students.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Lagos State, Honourable Raji Ogunlende, delivered a goodwill message, commending the students for their initiative. 

He encouraged them not to rely solely on academic qualifications but to embrace creativity and problem-solving.

“I can see economic development which will lead to commercial growth. Always put your best into everything you do. When youths are built, a nation is built,” he said.

In their respective remarks, His Royal Majesties, Onijanikin of Ijanikin Kingdom, Oba Momodu Afolabi Asafa and Oloto of Oto-Awori Kingdom, Oba (Elder) Aina Josiah Olanrewaju Ilemobade Kuyamiku1 lauded the university’s management for giving students the platform to exhibit their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills as well as preparing them to be independent after their stay in the university rather than solely focusing on whitecollar jobs and pledged their full support to the university.

The exhibition serves as a platform for LASUED students to showcase innovative projects, demonstrating their skills and expertise across various fields of entrepreneurship. 

The event is attended by members of the Management team, members of the university community, prominent chiefs from the host communities of Oto and Ijanikin, students, and other key stakeholders.
