Dr. Abdul-Wasi Moshood, the Acting Head of the Department of Political Science, welcomed participants and set the stage for the discussions. He emphasized the importance of examining the dynamics of US elections, considering their global significance as a political and economic powerhouse. Dr. Moshood, in an interview with the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR) correspondent, highlighted the event’s purpose—to increase exposure for the university and foster content-rich linkages within the department and across LASU. He underscored that democracy is context-based and content-driven, urging leaders to prioritize public welfare without bias.
The seminar’s guest speaker, Professor Sabella Abidde from the University of Alabama (USA), delivered an exhaustive analysis of the topic. Professor Abidde traced the historical development of US elections, delving into foundational principles, evolutionary changes, and current challenges. His insights provided a comprehensive understanding of the intricate electoral processes in the United States.
Professor Sylvester O. Akhaine, serving as the event’s moderator, emphasized the seminar’s broader purpose.
