The recently concluded Cavista Hackathon's second edition saw Team Jupiter from Lagos State University (LASU) clinch the top spot. Hosted at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, the event brought together 150 students from UNILAG, LASU, and Yabatech. Organized by Cavista Tech, a prominent software development company, the hackathon focused on developing AI-based solutions for healthcare challenges.

Over the 48-hour event, participants were tasked with conceptualizing and developing innovative solutions to address various health-related issues. Supported by expert coaches provided by Cavista, the teams received guidance and feedback throughout the hacking process. Following rigorous evaluation, Team Jupiter and Tech Med from LASU, alongside Farm Ceris from UNILAG, emerged as finalists, showcasing remarkable solutions.

Team Jupiter's AI dermatologist solution particularly impressed the judges, securing them the first-place position. The winners received a cash prize of ₦1 million, while the first and second runners-up were awarded ₦750,000 and ₦500,000, respectively. Speaking to Techpoint Africa, Michael Eziamaka, Team Jupiter's lead, expressed excitement and praised the event's inclusivity.

Bamidele Odufuye, Executive Director of Cavista Holdings, highlighted the hackathon's significance in nurturing young talents and addressing the skill gap. This edition marked the first time three tertiary institutions participated, underscoring Cavista's commitment to fostering innovation and problem-solving skills among youth. Odufuye noted the success of the previous edition at Babcock University, where some participants have since joined the Cavista Tech team, demonstrating the hackathon's impact beyond the event itself.

The Cavista Hackathon's second edition showcased the ingenuity and creativity of LASU's Team Jupiter and other participating teams. With a focus on AI-driven solutions for healthcare challenges, the event not only provided a platform for innovation but also fostered collaboration and skill development among students.
