LASUSTECH VC Calls for Increase in Admission Capacity at Higher Institutions

Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, has advocated for an increase in the admission capacity of tertiary institutions across the country. This call comes in response to the significant number of candidates denied admission each year due to limited vacancies.

Addressing attendees at the university's second matriculation ceremony, Professor Odusanya highlighted the challenges faced by LASUSTECH in accommodating the growing number of applicants. He revealed that in 2023, the university received 13,558 applications but could only offer admission to 3,300 students, representing a mere 25.4% acceptance rate. This low admission rate, according to the Vice Chancellor, places immense pressure on the university and results in a highly competitive environment for prospective students.

A total of 3,300 students participated in the matriculation ceremony, taking the oath to abide by the rules and regulations of the university. With a focus on manpower development and cutting-edge research, LASUSTECH aims to equip its students with the skills and knowledge needed to become future leaders and problem solvers in their respective fields.
