The 2024 rankings by Times Higher Education have identified Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) as the top state-owned university in Nigeria.
The latest rankings by Times Higher Education have positioned Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) as the best state-owned university in Nigeria for 2024. The rankings also highlighted Lagos State University (LASU) and Abia State University (ABSU) as the second and third best state universities, respectively.
The United Kingdom-based magazine ranked 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, using performance indicators that measure teaching quality, research environment, research quality, industry connections, and international outlook.
LAUTECH and LASU, ranked 11th and 12th best universities in Nigeria respectively, are outside the top 1500 universities globally. However, they lead the rankings among state universities in Nigeria.

- Covenant University and University of Ibadan are the only Nigerian universities within the global top 1000.
- FUTA and University of Lagos are among the top 1200 in the world.
- Bayero University, Kano; University of Ilorin, Kwara State; and University of Nigeria, Nsukka, are within the top 1500 category.
