Lead City University is set to host the 47th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP), bringing together leading voices in science, research, and technology to examine the evolving role of physics in national development.
The five-day conference, scheduled for May 11 to May 15, 2026, will take place at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan. Organisers have adopted a hybrid format, enabling both physical and virtual participation from stakeholders across academia, industry, and government.
With the theme “Smart Physics: A New Perspective for Technological Advancement,” the conference is expected to focus on how modern physics is driving innovation across critical sectors, including energy, materials science, geophysics, and applied technologies. Discussions will centre on emerging trends such as intelligent systems, data-driven modelling, and interdisciplinary research, all positioned as key enablers of sustainable development.

The event will be hosted by Joseph O. Coker, President of the NIP, while Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo will serve as Chief Host.
A strong lineup of speakers has been confirmed, including keynote speaker Victor Uzodima Chukwuma of Olabisi Onabanjo University. Other plenary speakers include Saheed Ayoola, D. N. Olayinka-Dosunmu, and S. Sankararaman, who will participate virtually.
Beyond academic discourse, the conference is expected to provide a platform for collaboration, networking, and industry engagement, with organisers also opening opportunities for exhibitions and partnerships.
Registration for the conference is currently open to interested participants, with organisers encouraging early sign-ups to secure participation in what is projected to be a high-impact scientific gathering.
