Legislative Backing for Nigerian Army University Biu Conversion Clarified

A bill sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives aims to provide legislative backing for the conversion of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) to a conventional federal university.

The decision to convert the university was previously approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a request by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The governor's request was necessitated by the military's gradual withdrawal from the university, requiring a shift in the institution's structure and focus. The President's approval was given, but legislative backing was still necessary to formally repeal the university's status as a military institution and convert it into a conventional federal university.
