McPherson University, through its Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences, has partnered with the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, to commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2026 with a coordinated awareness and voluntary blood donation campaign aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and promoting lifesaving donor participation.

The commemoration began with a sensitisation rally across the university campus, where students of the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences led awareness efforts on the importance of voluntary blood donation. Members of the university community were encouraged to embrace regular donation as part of a broader public health responsibility.
The first phase of the blood donation exercise took place on Monday, June 15, 2026, at OOUTH, Sagamu. Students and staff of the faculty joined the hospital-led campaign, recording strong participation. Over 100 voluntary donors took part in the exercise, resulting in the collection of 70 pints of blood to support medical services across Ogun State and beyond.
The second phase was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the McPherson University Health Centre, where staff and students also participated actively in the donation exercise. The session was jointly coordinated by officials from OOUTH and the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences, aligning with the global theme, “Donate Blood, Donate Life.”
Across both phases, the initiative recorded significant engagement from the university community, contributing to the reinforcement of blood reserves required for emergency care and routine medical procedures.

The programme highlighted voluntary blood donation as a shared civic and health responsibility while reinforcing McPherson University’s collaboration with OOUTH in advancing public health advocacy and community-oriented medical support initiatives.
