Meet UNIMAID Lecturer, Prof. Fanna Inna Abdurahman, the First Female Kanuri Professor In Nigeria

The University of Maiduguri is pleased to announce the remarkable achievements of Professor Fanna Inna Abdurahman, a distinguished scholar and accomplished academic administrator.

Professor Abdurahman has become the first female Kanuri Professor, Head of Department, Sub-Dean, and Dean of a Faculty at the University of Maiduguri. Her impressive educational background, academic excellence, and leadership roles make her a trailblazer in the Nigerian academic community.

She started her educational journey in Yerwa Central Primary School Maiduguri where she obtained her first School learning Certificate and then went on to Federal Government College, Owerri, in Imo State, where she got her West African School Certificate in 1980. She obtained a Bsc in Chemistry in 1987 from University of Maiduguri and in 1992 obtained a Masters Degree in Organic Chemistry.

Prof. Fanna rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2011. She has published over 120 papers in Local, National and International Peer Review Journals, one Monograph and four conference papers in organic /medical Chemistry and environmental analytical toxicology.

She has also held various Academic and Administrative positions in the University amongst which were Head of Department of Chemistry, Lembir Board of Research, Jamal Conference, Fellow Institute of Chartered Chemistry of Nigeria among others.

She is a member, steering committee of Borno State University, a Fellow of Chemical Society of Nigeria, and Fellow Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, She is also a Medicinal Chemist.

Additionally, prof. Fanna is a Director, Center for Research and Innovation in the University.
