Modupe Awotidebe Secures First-Class Honors in Industrial Chemistry at OAU
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) celebrates the remarkable academic journey of Modupe Awotidebe, who graduated from the Department of Industrial Chemistry with First-Class Honors during the 2024 academic session.
Despite significant external disruptions that extended her four-year program into a six-year journey, Awotidebe finished with an impressive CGPA of 4.50 on a 5.00 scale.
Awotidebe’s path to academic excellence was marked by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and recurring ASUU strikes. Reflecting on her time at OAU, she revealed that she was not on a First-Class track for the majority of her undergraduate years. However, she overcame moments of self-doubt through relentless study, often reviewing research materials and lecture notes "back-to-back" through late-night sessions.
Her academic rigor culminated in a specialized final-year project titled, “Spectroscopic Investigation of the Interaction Between Methylene Blue and Sodium Lauroylsarcosinate.” The research involved complex laboratory experiments that required immense perseverance, especially when initial results were inconsistent.
Attributing her success to a combination of hard work and spiritual guidance, Awotidebe stated: “Truly, this achievement is a testament not just to hard work, but to His grace, guidance, and faithfulness.”
Her story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience for the Nigerian student community, demonstrating that academic setbacks and institutional delays can be overcome with dedication and a growth mindset.
