My Dream is to Become a Neuroscientist - Overall Best MBBS Graduate, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Says

The overall best newly qualified doctor at the 9th MBBS induction ceremony, Dr. Muhammad Murtala Abdullahi, has expressed his gratitude to the University Community and his teachers for providing a conducive environment for their medical training.

Dr. Abdullahi, who emerged as the overall best in MBBS, revealed that his future plan is to become a neuroscientist, a dream he hopes to pursue with dedication. When asked what motivated him to achieve this feat, he said he was determined to emerge as the best before their examination, and his prayer was answered.

Dr. Abdullahi expressed his desire to pursue a program in neuroscience from MSc to PhD level outside Nigeria, as there are no available researchers in this field at Bayero University, Kano.

In a separate development, researchers from Bayero University, Kano, are leading a multinational project to develop the first high-quality labeled Twitter dataset collection for detecting hate and abusive languages in 18 African languages.

The team, consisting of Shamsuddeen Hassan Muhammad and Ibrahim Said Ahmad from the Faculty of Computing, Bayero University Kano, and Idris Abdulmumin from the Department of Computer Science, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, is working on this project, which covers languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin, Algerian Arabic, Swahili, Afrikaans, IsiXhosa, IsiZulu, and Darija. Online hate is a growing problem worldwide, causing harm to users who are exposed to it, polluting and disrupting online communities, and leading to psychological harm and offline violence. Social media platforms facilitate the propagation of hate and offensive speeches by allowing users to rapidly create and spread harmful content.
