NAAT Delegation Commends COOU Vice-Chancellor for Leadership, Strengthens Ties with Academic Technologists

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) hosted the national leadership of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.

The delegation was warmly received by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, alongside the university’s principal officers, including Professor Anselm Nweke (DVC Administration and Environmental Sustainability), Professor Obiora Ejiofor (DVC Academics), Professor Sylvia Okonkwo (DVC Uli Campus and Development), and the Registrar, Sir Chris Obi.

NAAT’s national PRO, Comr. Dr. Godwin M. Mafuyai, introduced the executives representing academic technologists from universities nationwide. Comr. Engr. Eziuzo Ikechukwu, Southeast Zonal Coordinator and COOU Branch Chairman, praised Prof. Omenugha for her consistent support, describing her as “a mother with human feelings who listens to the calls of her children.” NAAT President Comr. Ibeji Nwokoma E. C. echoed the sentiments, congratulating Prof. Omenugha on her historic appointment as the first female Vice-Chancellor of COOU and commending her inclusive leadership style. The delegation also highlighted key challenges facing academic technologists and called for stronger collaboration to advance their welfare.

Responding, Prof. Omenugha expressed gratitude for the visit and recognition, affirming her commitment to fairness, integrity, and merit-based promotion. She emphasized that the university is keen on rewarding hard work and advancing innovation through the planned establishment of specialized Centres for Technology, aligning with her administration’s 3Vs agenda: Value, Viability, and Visibility.

In a gesture of solidarity, the NAAT delegation presented the Vice-Chancellor with the union’s ceremonial uniform, which she accepted, promising to wear it “in grand style.” The visit concluded on a celebratory note with both parties singing the NAAT solidarity song and taking a group photograph, marking a strengthened partnership between COOU management and its academic technologists.
