NACON Delegation Commends UNILAG Leadership for Support in Nursing Programme

A delegation from the Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON), led by Corps Commandant Colonel Juliana O. Awuto, visited the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, to express gratitude for UNILAG's support in establishing a Bachelor of Nursing degree programme.

A delegation from the Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON), led by Corps Commandant Colonel Juliana O. Awuto, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

The purpose of the visit was to express appreciation to the University leadership for its support towards NACON's initiative to establish a Bachelor of Nursing degree programme. This collaborative effort follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NACON and UNILAG.

Accompanying Colonel Awuto were senior officers of NACON, including Deputy Commandant Lt. Col O.S Adewale and Director of Academic Affairs Lt. Col S.O Shittu, among others.

In her remarks, Colonel Awuto emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two institutions to advance healthcare education and training in Nigeria. She expressed gratitude to UNILAG, renowned as the "University of First Choice," for its steadfast support, which has led to significant improvements in infrastructure and personnel dedicated to advancing the medical profession in the country.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu, welcomed the partnership between UNILAG and NACON. He highlighted the ongoing efforts in curriculum development for the Nursing Degree programme, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring its success.

Professor Chukwu reiterated UNILAG's dedication to global best practices and affirmed the institution's continued support for NACON in promoting excellence in nursing education and professional development. He announced a 25% increase in the admission quota, approved by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, which will provide more opportunities for NACON students to pursue their academic goals at UNILAG. This initiative aims to enhance the educational experience of NACON students and foster collaboration between the two institutions.

At the conclusion of the visit, both teams exchanged gifts as symbols of goodwill, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and mutual appreciation between NACON and UNILAG.
