NANS Unveils Constituency-Based Scholarship Scheme to Boost Access to Education and Career Development
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has introduced the Constituency Scholarship and Talent Development Scheme (CSTDS), a nationwide initiative aimed at improving access to education, mentorship, and international opportunities for Nigerian students
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has launched the Constituency Scholarship and Talent Development Scheme (CSTDS) to provide scholarships, mentorship, skills development, and international exposure opportunities for students across Nigeria.
NANS, in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja on Monday, said the programme would provide scholarships and talent development opportunities through partnerships with members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.
Speaking on the initiative, NANS President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye, described the scheme as a strategic intervention aimed at bridging the gap for Nigerian students in accessing quality education, mentorship, and global opportunities.
According to Akinteye, the programme is designed not only to provide financial support but also to create sustainable pathways for academic and professional growth.
“This initiative is a major step forward in ensuring that Nigerian students are not limited by geography or financial constraints. It is not just about awarding scholarships, but about creating pathways for long-term academic and career success,” he said.

He explained that the scheme would enable lawmakers to channel constituency resources into structured, transparent educational support systems that directly impact students in their constituencies.
Also speaking, the Director of International Projects and Partnerships, Comrade Abraham Temitayo Adewoye, said the initiative would leverage partnerships across the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe to connect Nigerian students with global academic networks.
“What we are building is a bridge between Nigerian students and the global academic community.
Through this programme, beneficiaries will gain exposure to international standards, networks, and opportunities that prepare them for the future,” Adewoye stated.
He assured that the programme would cover all constituencies across the country, ensuring equitable access for students regardless of location.
“This opportunity is designed to touch every constituency in Nigeria. We are committed to ensuring that students from all parts of the country benefit from this programme. The NANS President has opened a new door for Nigerian students, creating access to opportunities that were previously out of reach,” he added.
Adewoye further pledged that the scheme would be implemented with transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes across participating constituencies.
According to NANS, the CSTDS will focus on three core areas: scholarship support for students, international academic exposure programmes, and mentorship and skills development initiatives.
The association disclosed that each participating constituency would be expected to sponsor between 20 and 30 students annually, while a minimum of 10 beneficiaries would be selected for international exposure programmes.
NANS also urged senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state legislators to adopt the initiative as part of their constituency development programmes.
The student body noted that the scheme aligns with existing funding frameworks, including constituency project allocations, education intervention funds, and youth empowerment budgets.
NANS, which represents more than 50 million Nigerian students in tertiary institutions across the country and in the diaspora, said the initiative reflects its commitment to advancing student welfare and promoting educational development nationwide.
