The Nasarawa State government has successfully trained 1,513 secondary school teachers on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) as part of a collaborative initiative with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).

The training took place on October 15, 2024, in Lafia, and was aimed at equipping educators with skills to effectively handle grievances and gender-based violence (GBV) in schools.

The state Commissioner for Education, John B.W Mamman, disclosed this during the training session, emphasizing its importance in enhancing educational opportunities for girls in targeted areas.

The program focused on 696 junior and senior secondary schools and involved 29 area education officers across the state.

Mamman, represented by Hassan Mohammed, the director of planning in the ministry, highlighted that the training is part of the AGILE project, which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and the World Bank.

He stated that the initiative aims to improve the secondary education landscape for girls by building new schools and refurbishing existing dilapidated ones.

Emrims Emmanuel, director of the National Project Coordinating Unit, reiterated that the AGILE project is designed to bolster secondary education opportunities for girls in the region.

Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, the state project coordinator for the Ministry of Education, stressed the importance of establishing mechanisms to resolve grievances at the school or community level before escalating them to higher authorities.

This training marks a significant step towards improving the educational environment for students in Nasarawa State, fostering a safer and more supportive atmosphere for learning.
