NAUB Leadership Visits Abogo Largema Military Cantonment; Strengthens Ties with 231 Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment
The Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Military, Col AY Bello, and the Acting Registrar, Lt Col OS Job, paid a familiarization visit to the Commanding Officers (COs) of the 231 Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment at Abogo Largema Military Cantonment, Biu, on January 28, 2026.
The delegation was warmly received with a Quarter Guard, followed by the introduction of officers and a briefing session in the conference room. During the briefing, the Commanding Officers outlined their areas of operation, deployment strategies, and efforts in safeguarding Biu and its environs.
The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen familiarization, reaffirm NAUB’s commitment to sustaining the existing cordial relationship with the military formations, and explore additional areas of mutual collaboration for the benefit of both institutions and the wider community.
Col AY Bello expressed appreciation for the long-standing synergy between the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) and Agbolargema Barracks. He also addressed the prohibition of motorcycle operations within Biu, noting that only security personnel in full uniform are exempted, and urged the COs to ensure strict compliance among their personnel to maintain law and order.
The DVC Military further encouraged the Commanding Officers to motivate younger soldiers to advance their careers by enrolling at NAUB, describing the University’s presence as a unique opportunity for professional and intellectual development.
In his remarks, the Acting Registrar Lt Col OS Job commended the Battalion for its unwavering commitment to peace and security in Biu and its environs. He acknowledged their professionalism and sacrifices, which have ensured a stable environment for academic activities and enabled residents to pursue their lawful engagements without fear. He emphasized NAUB’s deep appreciation for their tireless efforts in securing the city, as well as NAUB staff, students, and facilities. He also highlighted the Battalion’s effective collaboration with sister security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) as a model for regional stability.
The Registrar further expressed gratitude for the continuous support extended to NAUB, particularly in providing accommodation for some staff and students within the Barracks and through other collaborative arrangements, noting that these gestures reflect the strong bond between the University and the military formations.
As a gesture of fellowship, the Acting DVC Military introduced the NAUB Golf Course to the Commanding Officers and extended an invitation for them to join, with a view to strengthening social ties.
In response, the Commanding Officers thanked the delegation for the visit and recommended that NAUB enhance its internal security communication system by procuring radios linked on a single network to mitigate challenges posed by unreliable mobile phone services. They also advised the acquisition of high-definition cameras to provide wider surveillance coverage of NAUB facilities, noting that this would serve as a force multiplier amid manpower constraints.
Following the meeting, the DVC Military and the Acting Registrar toured NAUB student hostels located within the Barracks. The DVC Military stressed the urgent need for comprehensive clearing and cleaning of the premises, emphasizing that a hygienic environment is vital for effective learning.
