The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has thrown its weight behind Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University's (COOU) forthcoming Tree-Planting and Climate Action Summit, offering robust backing for the university's environmental sustainability endeavors.
In a letter addressed to the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, Dr. Joseph Onoja, Director General of NCF, expressed commendation for COOU's proactive stance on environmental conservation. The NCF hailed the university's commitment to integrating sustainable practices and climate change mitigation into its operations.

"We commend COOU for institutionalizing environmental sustainability and high-impact climate change mitigation programs," stated Dr. Onoja in the acceptance letter seen by COOUNewS.
The upcoming Tree-Planting and Climate Action Summit, themed "Tree-mendous Action for a Sustainable Future," slated for July 17, 2024, at COOU Igbariam, aims to plant one million trees as part of its 5-year Climate Action Roadmap. This initiative, which promotes a mantra of "One Staff One Tree, One Student One Tree," resonates deeply with NCF's Strategic Action Plan (SAP).

In support of COOU's ambitious goals, the NCF outlined its contributions, including donating tree seedlings, providing technical expertise on tree planting and maintenance, collaborating on future climate action projects, and engaging COOU's community in environmental conservation efforts through its Business Development and Communications department.
Dr. Onoja also confirmed his participation as the Keynote Speaker and Chief Planter at the summit, underscoring NCF's commitment to fostering environmental stewardship among COOU's staff and students.
In response, Prof. Omenugha expressed gratitude to NCF for their partnership and support, emphasizing the pivotal role of environmental conservation in shaping COOU's future. She reiterated the university's dedication to fulfilling its mandate under the guidance of the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
