The NELFUND Beneficiaries Association Nigeria (NBAN) has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has increased students’ upkeep allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦150,000.

In an official statement issued on December 28, 2025, the Association described the claim as false, misleading, and entirely unverified. NBAN clarified that there has been no formal announcement or policy directive from NELFUND indicating any adjustment to the current upkeep allowance.

According to the Association, thorough checks confirmed that NELFUND has not released any statement on its official website or through its recognized communication channels to support the circulating reports. While acknowledging that policy reviews may occur in the future, NBAN stressed that no decision regarding an increase in upkeep allowance has been approved or communicated at this time.
