NerdzFactory Foundation Launches TechDrive Programme to Equip Ogun Students with Digital Skills

NerdzFactory Foundation has introduced the TechDrive Programme, a strategic initiative designed to provide digital skills training to 5,000 secondary school students across Ogun State. This initiative, in collaboration with Access Corporation, aims to address Nigeria's digital skills gap by equipping young learners with essential technology knowledge and skills. With only 43% of Nigerians having internet access and the national unemployment rate standing at 53.4%, the TechDrive Programme marks a significant effort toward preparing Nigerian youth for opportunities in the digital economy.

The TechDrive Programme takes a dual approach, combining advocacy and hands-on training. Through advocacy sessions, students will be exposed to the potential of technology and encouraged to consider digital careers. Additionally, practical web design training will be provided to 50 students selected from participating schools, equipping them with foundational skills to pursue employment or entrepreneurship in the digital field.

Ademulegun Olowojoba, Executive Director of NerdzFactory Foundation, emphasized the program's role in fostering digital literacy among young Nigerians. "Through the TechDrive Programme, we are making a crucial investment in the future of young Nigerians. By equipping these students with digital skills, we are not only closing the digital divide but also unlocking the potential for innovation and socio-economic growth in Ogun State," he remarked. He expressed gratitude to Access Corporation for its support in making this initiative a reality.

Running from October to December 2024, the programme will reach 10 secondary schools in Ogun State. For the 50 students selected for advanced web design training, the hands-on experience will empower them to create functional websites, opening pathways to job opportunities or business ventures in the digital economy.

To ensure sustained impact, NerdzFactory Foundation has also introduced the TechDrive Club, a long-term initiative aimed at providing mentorship and continuous development opportunities for participants. This club will help the students build on the skills learned and stay on course toward future success.

The TechDrive Programme aspires to inspire a generation of digital innovators, positioning Ogun State as a rising hub for technology-driven growth. By tackling issues of digital illiteracy and unemployment, this initiative promises to contribute significantly to the development and empowerment of Ogun State and beyond, paving the way for future innovations and socio-economic advancement.
