The government of Niger State has revealed that it has earmarked N20 billion in its 2024 budget for the establishment of the state University of Education. The announcement was made by the State Governor, Alhaji Umaru Bago, during the inauguration of the committee responsible for the university's take-off. This institution will operate alongside the existing state College of Education in Minna.

Governor Bago emphasized the importance of efficient and non-bureaucratic decision-making by the committee. The committee's tasks include creating a transition program for the university, determining the financial and infrastructural requirements in accordance with university laws and regulations, and seeking opportunities for community and private sector involvement in project development.

The Governor also clarified that the University of Education's establishment would not hinder the College of Education (COE) Minna from continuing its programs while operating under the university's umbrella.

In line with the administration's goal to make the state an education hub, proposals for the establishment of the University of Agriculture in Mokwa, the University of Energy and Renewable Energy in Shiroro, and the University of Medicine in Suleja are also being considered.

Prof. Mohammed Yahaya, the committee's Chairman and former Secretary to the State Government, expressed gratitude to the governor and vowed to work diligently to ensure the university becomes one of the best in the country.
