Nigerian First-Generation Student Sunday Okafor to Graduate from UA and Join Engineering Firm

Sunday Okafor, a first-generation student from Nigeria, is set to graduate from the University of Alabama (UA) this Saturday with a doctorate in civil engineering. Okafor, who initially completed his master’s degree in civil engineering in the United Kingdom, chose UA for its strong support and resources for international students.

"That understanding of the international community is very important to me. Being able to integrate easily and have people that can guide you, the support here, that was a big deal for me to make that decision to come to UA," Okafor said.

After graduation, Okafor will begin his career as a project engineer with Garver, an engineering and consulting firm in Arkansas.
