Despite scoring an impressive 284 and 320 respectively on her Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, the student found herself unable to secure admission into the University of Lagos (Unilag) to pursue her dream of studying medicine.

Frustrated by the system's seeming inefficiencies, her family refused to let her potential go untapped. Determined to explore alternative avenues, her brother-in-law, Arinze Odira encouraged her to take the SAT exam and apply for scholarships in the United States.

"She prepped for only two weeks and scored 1450. We started applying for scholarships in the United States, and she got two fully funded scholarships and one partially funded one," he noted.

"Last week, she attended her visa interview, marking the final step in her journey to study abroad. In a few months, she will be heading to the United States to pursue her academic ambitions and explore her full potential."

Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Odira expressed confusion and frustration with the Nigerian education system, noting that despite her exceptional scores, she faced challenges gaining admission locally. He emphasized the importance of providing opportunities, information, and access to ensure success, sentiments echoed by many who lament the loss of Nigeria's brightest minds due to systemic obstacles.
