Nigerian Woman Overcomes Dyslexia, Achieves First-Class Honors in Aeronautical Engineering from University of Brighton
Hauwa, who fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer, is the first Northern Nigerian woman to pursue and successfully complete a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Despite initially aspiring to become a pilot, she redirected her passion towards aeronautical engineering to contribute to aviation safety in the country.
Hauwa Umar Usman, a determined Nigerian woman, has triumphed over memory loss and dyslexia, graduating with First-Class honors in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom.
Hauwa, who fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer, is the first Northern Nigerian woman to pursue and successfully complete a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Despite initially aspiring to become a pilot, she redirected her passion towards aeronautical engineering to contribute to aviation safety in the country.

Facing the challenges of dyslexia, Hauwa was diagnosed during her studies in the United Kingdom. She shared, "I experienced some challenges, which a British friend noticed were signs of dyslexia and suggested that I take a dyslexia test." Despite the diagnosis, Hauwa successfully navigated her academic journey with the support of the Dyslexia team at the University of Brighton.
In a male-dominated field, Hauwa's success is attributed to hard work, stepping out of her comfort zone, and strategic approaches to managing her learning difficulties. She expressed gratitude to her family for their encouragement during challenging times.
