The University of Lagos (UNILAG), in collaboration with Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited, has successfully transformed the UNILAG Main Library Lobby and Makerspace into a cutting-edge hub for innovation and learning. This visionary project, led by University Librarian Professor Yetunde Zaid, aimed to redefine library services and create a technologically advanced space for students.

In a visionary move aimed at preparing the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the future, the institution, in collaboration with Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited, has unveiled the newly remodeled UNILAG Main Library Lobby and Makerspace. This transformation turns the space into a dynamic hub that goes beyond traditional boundaries, embracing technology and fostering limitless possibilities.

The initiative, driven by the University Librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid, sought to redefine library services and create a gateway to infinite horizons. With unwavering support from the University Management, various members of the university community, and a generous donation from Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited, Professor Zaid's visionary concept has now become a reality.

The formal commissioning of the remodelled UNILAG Main Library Lobby and Makerspace took place on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The ceremony coincided with the Meeting of the Board of Directors of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), hosted by UNILAG. The event was attended by over fifteen Vice-Chancellors from universities across Africa, staff, and friends of Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited, as well as the management team, staff, and students of UNILAG.

Reflecting on the project, Professor Zaid acknowledged the passion and commitment that fueled its realization. She expressed gratitude to Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited for their inspiring dedication, emphasizing their consistent involvement in monitoring the remodeling progress.

During her address, Professor Zaid highlighted the significance of the remodelled makerspace as a student engagement center, fostering interactions between lecturers, industry professionals, and students to enhance learning beyond traditional classrooms. The space is equipped with state-of-the-art devices and software, providing students with an advanced learning experience.

To ensure organized usage and maintenance, Professor Zaid explained that users would need to apply for space in advance by scanning the QR code on the wall mural located just outside the makerspace and completing an application form. The remodelled UNILAG Main Library Lobby and Makerspace now stand as a testament to the university's commitment to innovation and preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
