NMDPRA Commissions Integrated CNG Refuelling Facility at OAU

In a major step toward sustainable energy adoption in the academic sector, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has commissioned an integrated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling facility at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

The project was executed through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), a directorate of the NMDPRA tasked with accelerating gas infrastructure across Nigeria.

The commissioning of the facility at OAU is part of the Federal Government’s broader initiative to promote CNG as a cleaner, more affordable alternative to petrol (PMS) and diesel. By situating this facility within a premier academic institution, the NMDPRA aims to:

Reduce Operational Costs: Lower the fueling expenses for the university’s transportation fleet.

MDGIF’s Role in National Development

The MDGIF continues to play a pivotal role in de-risking gas investments. The OAU facility serves as a pilot for integrating gas infrastructure into large-scale public institutions, aligning with Nigeria's "Decade of Gas" policy.

The Vice-Chancellor of OAU and representatives from the NMDPRA lauded the collaboration, describing it as a benchmark for town-and-gown partnerships in solving national energy challenges.
